Editing Checklist

Some our common mistakes writing are: Run-On, Comma Splice, Tense, Spelling, Preposition, Comma/Spaces/Hard returns, Fragment, Subject-Verb Agreement.
I try to correct the exercise that our teacher, Joseph, gave us in the class:
1-      Pushpa goes to the store, because her husband, Kathigesu, is lazy. Also she doesn’t drive. She buys rice which weighs over a ton!
2-      O Canada, our home and native land, true patriot love, in all thy sons command!
3-      I went to sears with my family last week. Because it was raining, we didn’t drive. We took a taxi there. When we arrived, the store had closed.
4-      When they opened the window, it was raining. Even though we love soccer, we decided not to go to the stadium.
5-      We went to the mall even though we had no money. Johnny and Jimmy like to eat Italian spaghetti very much.
6-      In Montreal, he finally applied for PR. She likes to look at nature. So she enjoys taking pictures of leaves turning color in autumn.
7-      Every day we go to LINC class, and Sharon feels very tired after five hours. She must study harder. Last term she got 40% for ESL.
8-      After MicroSkills LINC, Kanesh moved to Vancouver and worked at Whistler Ski Resort.
9-      Pushpa  went to the store. Although he was tired, Kathigesu went with her. They took a train there.

Who is richer than Bill Gates?

Somebody asked Bill Gates, Is there any person richer than you?
Bill Gates said, yes, only one. Many years ago, I had been dismissal and I had gone to New York airport. I read titles of newspapers there. I liked one of them and I want to buy it. But I didn't  have change (coin). I abandoned, suddenly, a black boy called me and told, “This newspaper for you.” I said, but I don’t have change. He said, “No problem, I give you free”.
After 3 months, I went there. Coincidentally, that story happened again and that same boy gave another free newspaper again. I said, I can’t accept. But he said, “I give you from my profit.”
After 19 years, I had been rich and I decided to find that boy. I found him after one and half months searching. I asked him, do you know me? He said, “Yes, you’re famous Bill Gates.”
I said, you gave me free newspaper in 2 times many years ago. Now, I want to compensate it. I am going to give you everything that you want. Black young man replied, “You can’t compensate it!”
I said, why? He said, "Because I gave you when I was poor. You want to give me when you are rich. So, how do you compensate?"
Bill Gates said, I think that Muslim black young man is richer than me.

Nowruz (Iranian New Year)

Nowruz is the first day of spring and the beginning of the New Year in Iran and some other countries such as Afghanistan, Azerbaijan.
In Persian Nowruz consists two words, Now and Ruz. Now means new and Ruz means day. The Iranian  New Year starts on March 20, 21 or 22. The United Nations (UN) has registered March 21 for Nowruz.
Before Nowruz, Iranians clean their houses and wash their carpets and curtains. They prepare every thing for the beginning of the New Year. They cook sabzipolo (rice and vegetables) with fish at the last night of year.
The time of new year is different each year but the date is almost the same.
Iranians have Sofreh Haftsin. This means that they put 7 special thing that start with the letter S (in Persian) on a tablecloth:
Apple, garlic, grass ( wheat or lentil sprout), jujube tee, Samanu (like a sweet), coin, sumac.
These are symbol of health, fertility and wealth. Of course, they put a mirror, coloured eggs and a book there, too.
Schools are closed for 13 days and governmental offices for 5 days.
People put on new clothes and go to visit their relatives. They start from the oldest relative. Some people have to travel.
The 13th day of new year is Sizdahbedar. It means nature day. People go out in the morning until afternoon. They eat lunch outside. Finally, they tie grass.

Token Crisis

Today, the MicroSkills manager explained the latest budget cuts. She said the government slashed 40% of MicroSkills budget, So, MicroSkills can give only 2 tokens per day to each class.
I said, "MicroSkills can rent a bus for students". Then she said, "That is a good idea and we will look into it."
I think the main goal of the Canadian government is the success of Canada. If newcomers can improve themselves and find jobs, this country will be successful. Because nowadays economics is the most important thing in the world.
Finally, let me say to MicroSkills:
If you want to help us, learn how to catch fish, don't give us fish but teach us to fish instead!

Interview questions

  • How do you respond to tough situations?
First, I think about that problem and I try to find a solution for it. Also, I get help from my colleagues and boss. The important point is that I am patient and speedy.

  • If I were your boss, how could I keep you motivated to get the most productivity from you?
I can be motivated with extra training. I think update person can be creative and productivity. Also, my boss is patient, I can work without stress.

  • Tell me about a time that you challenged a school or company policy.
In my previous company, I tried to study that problem and find some logical reason for my challenge. Then I told to my boss. That if he didn't accept my reason I would be still company's policy.
